How to: Picnic like a Bridgerton

A gif lakeside social gathering based in the regency era

Dearest Gentle Picnic - goers,

As the days get warmer and our yearning for the Regency era deepens after the latest season of Bridgerton, we here at Picnic Party suggest throwing a Bridgerton themed picnic. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you!

START WITH COLOR!

Start by selecting a harmonious color palette to weave through your setting. Our personal favorite is a Bridgerton sky blue, complimented by silver cutlery and white linens, to insure a classy and refined ambience. If you’re going for something a little bit bolder, an array of Featherington citruses would certainly add a pop to your picnic.

LINENS - KEEP IT LIGHT

When setting the table, start with a tablecloth that includes either a floral pattern or some lace trim that suits your color scheme. Opt for dishes with a vintage and delicate feel, perhaps with additional florals or similar patterns.

TABLETOP OPULENCE

There’s many things that we LOVE about the Bridgerton set design. To mimic some of the opulence for your own table, we recommend:

  • Florals (roses, hydrangeas, wisteria)

  • Tall Taper Candles paired with Vintage Candlesticks

  • Vintage Tea Cups

Additionally, including a tiered tea tray will contribute some height and visual interest to the table. You can make a simple centerpiece with edible elements (like fruit) that will double as your party snack!

GUEST EXPERIENCE

Though chances are slim the queen might attend, there are some ways to ensure your guests have a ball.

Personalize invitations and your own “Lady Whistledown” Society Papers. Got any news to share? (A move, promotion, pregnancy, new skincare routine? Put it in the gossip sheet!)

Set a dress code that your friends will enjoy participating in. Garden Formal, pastel colors, empire waistlines, and floral patterns will surely be in fashion for your picnic!

Make a playlist for your time together. You could borrow the soundtrack for classical renditions of pop songs, or borrow our tea time playlist for a mix of jazzy favorites from (more recent) past decades.

OTHER TIPS

  • If you’re not looking to break the bank here, look to rent items instead of purchasing them.

  • If you do want to own your items, there are many affordable options for vintage tableware in thrift stores!

  • If you serve tea, consider having iced tea! You can still serve it in a tea pot, but it’s much easier to transport to your picnic, and more refreshing on a hot day!

Invite your friends along, put on some classical remakes of all favorite pop songs, and enjoy being the envy of anyone who happens to promenade past.
